Help Save Lives in Pakistan
It is difficult to decide what cause to bring awareness to, there are so many important causes to support. And we don’t want this blog to become about nothing but the causes out there. That being said, sometimes something is of such significance that it rises to the top quickly.
The UNHCR is an organization dedicated for over 5 decades to safeguarding the rights and well-being of refugees.
Were you aware that over 20 million people have been affected by the flood in Pakisatan? Did you realize that 3 million are homeless and over 450,000 homes have been destroyed. Not to mention the millions that are displaced and lack shelter, food and clean water.
The number of people affected by the floods is worse than the tsunami, the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and the Haiti earthquake says the UN.
UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie has appealed for greater public support for efforts to provide humanitarian relief to the millions of people whose lives have been devastated by the floods taking over much of Pakistan. In her video message the actress points to the sheer scale of the disaster as one-fifth of Pakistanis are under water and the threat of disease now looms for 20 million affected people. What has already been done? UNHCR teams in Pakistan have provided shelter and other emergency supplies to millions of people caught up in the disaster. But with nearly 20 million people estimated to have been affected, the needs of the victims are outpacing the ability of humanitarian organizations to provide assistance.
