A Little Friday Humor from Tina Fey

Tina Fey’s Prayer for her Daughter

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her
When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels.

What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen. Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.

“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.

Mommy paparazzi, on “droids”

All in a day's Droid X candid moments...

So, I finally bit the bullet and bought a fancy phone. I wanted the new iPhone but, alas, AT&T coverage in my area of San Francisco is non-existent. With a new baby, and new communication requirements as a result, “dead zones” were a non-starter. The Verizon Droid X was the next best bet and i am now the proud owner of this awesome android.

Why do I say “awesome”? Well, it actually has nothing to do with the phone, coverage or any of the other typical phone-like qualities. Truthfully, I am addicted to the camera and the extent to which it enables me to take my new-mommy-baby-paparazzi syndrome to whole new levels. Now EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) can be captured. And with just as good quality as my digital camera. Suffice it to say I am totally hooked…

Lucky for me my 6-month old daughter is a good sport – a bit of a “ham” actually. She simply LOVES having her photo taken. Unlike her mom, she lights up on the other side of the lens and gives huge smiles for the camera. Needless to say, my “photo library” is quickly filling up. I am capturing her daily milestones with images and am loving the process. I have big plans to print them all out and put them in a photo album for her to enjoy (when she is old enough to appreciate it).

I have taken a few thousand photos of my daughter already. I initially thought I would slow down after the first few months of her entering the world. Not a chance. If anything I have amped up my baby paparazzi in recent weeks as she has become more and more interactive…sitting and playing (the “potted plant stage” as my yoga instructor affectionately calls it), smiling, eating solid foods, etc. Looks like I’ll be buying additional memory for my computer instead!

P.S.: If you have an Android, check out the FXCamera App. Lots of fun effects!

A walking we will go….

Walking with Sweet Lexi

Lexi and I have a groove when we walk.  We fall into a nice rhythm.  It calms us both, we breathe in fresh air, we feel the warmth of the sun on our bodies and the cool breeze on our skin.  Since I carry her in either our Ergo Carrier or Bjorn, we are quite literally walking heart to heart. I’m convinced that the beating of our hearts gets in sync as we stroll.  Sometimes Lexi is looking from side to side, checking everything out, completely enthused by what she is discovering. Other times, she rests her head on my chest and closes her eyes, falling asleep with each passing step. Either way, we are together and in sync. read more »

Rock AND Roll in this cool kiddie contraption

Posted in Stuff We Love {Toys, Games, Music & Books}, Uncategorized on July 14th, 2010 by LuxeMomDaniela – Be the first to comment

Ok…So at 600 Euros this one is a bit lavish, but boy is it cool. Designed by Hans Brokhage in 1950, this amazing contraption is a toy car for your kiddo when it is used on one side and a rocking chair when it is turned over. It is touted to be in “very good original condition” by the seller. If you’ve got about $750 US to spare this is the splurge for you!

An Abstract Expressionist, a Baby and a Brownie….

Arshile Gorky, 'Organization' 1933-1936

As you likely know, a child’s vision develops over the first 6-8 months of their lives.  At that point, it is almost as sophisticated as an adults, able to see colors, tones and depth.  But until then it is much simpler.  We are told to expose our newborns to black and white images with high contrast and to start introducing bold colors by 2-3 months.  I have the Stim-Mobile to stimulate my 3 1/2 month old baby’s early visual activity and pre-reaching movement. I’ve been rigorous in changing the ‘cards’ on it to maximize her developing sight.  I have all kinds of baby Art Cards to focus her developing sense of shape and color.  As far as I am concerned, I am on it!  But how would she react to real art? Would she even see it and if so, how might she react? read more »
